What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme available to charities. It means Charities (such as Shoreham Oratorio) can claim extra money from HMRC. The charity can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you pay in donate through your subs. That’s as long as you’ve paid the basic rate and pay yours subs from your own funds.

How often does the choir rehearse?

What happens at a rehearsal?

We meet from about 7.15 p.m. so that people get a chance to chat/give out scores etc. Singing starts at 7.30 p.m. with a warm-up.  We practice various pieces as planned by our Musical Director.  A break is taken at 8.30 p.m. so that messages can be announced and people can have a breather. Why do choir members pay a subscription fee?

Subscriptions are very important. They help pay for the hire of venues, hire of scores, payment to our rehearsal accompanist/Musical Director etc. Find out more about our membership terms…

Is there a steering group / trustees / management committee?

The choir is officially registered as a charity. There is a committee which regularly meets to plan and make descisions. Outcomes are often fed back to the choir during rehearsals and minutes are always available.

How can I help?

Members are always encouraged to become part of the committee and help in the running of the choir. There are always ways to help. For example setting up venues for rehearsals/concerts, displaying posters, selling tickets etc. There is an A.G.M. each year (usually in October) when new officers to the committee are elected, including the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, etc. Find out more about membership…
