Kiwi-British soprano Rose Rands graduated from postgraduate training at RWCMD in 2022 with distinction. She received first prize in both the London Classical Music Competition and the Paris International Music Competition (2024), a Melofonetica Scholarship (2023), special mention in the Edith Poulsen Singing Competition (2024), the Opéra de Baugé Gil-Rodriguez Award (2022), and was a semi-finalist in the Lake Como Academy International Opera Competition (2024). Rose is an associate artist of Oxford Opera Society. Recent roles include Belinda (cover) in Dido & Aeneas (Purcell), Annina in La Traviata (Verdi), and Lover/Midinette in Il Tabarro (Puccini). In 2024 Rose won grants from the Nicholas Boas Trust, Help Musicians UK and the Mario Lanza Foundation. Rose is passionate about new and original music and interdisciplinary/mixed-media work, having co-created a choreopera in 2023 and been principal soloist/actor in an art exhibition in 2024. She has just written the libretto for a new song cycle composed for her voice by composer Marco Galvani. Rose has two philosophy degrees, from Oxford and KCL, and worked as assistant to soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan. She is a keen linguist, speaking French and Italian, and studies singing at the London Singers Studio.
