Members

We all know that singing is good for our health and well-being. Come and join us as a member of the choir, a volunteer at our events or a patron. New voices (soprano, alto, tenor or bass) are always welcome. We have very reasonable fees and have a policy of open recruitment – no auditions – just enthusiasm and a commitment to rehearsing.

Rehearsals are held currently in the Methodist Church Hall, Brunswick Road, Shoreham By Sea. BN43 5WB

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held every Thursday – led by professional musicians , Conductor, Lucia Švecová and Accompanist, Tim Nail.

Dates for 2024-25

Members have access to rehearsal tracks for their voice part which is a great help for if you don’t sight-read music. Your choir colleagues are there to support you, and your own enthusiasm will carry you through.

Social Activities

Singing and socialising together has stood the test of time. Over the years we’ve held many concerts, exchange programmes and special trips, which are always an enjoyable mixture of music-making and merriment.

Subscription Fees

Subscriptions pay for the hire of venues, hire of scores, and payments to our professional Musical Director and Accompanist

We supply all music scores which are yours to use for the duration of the term.  They are then collected and returned to our supplier.

From September 2024 members are asked to pay £50 per term. However, new members only pay half fees – £25 for their first term.

Details and Payment of Subs

If you are a tax payer, please consider completing the Gift Aid declaration. We can then claim a further 25% from the Government, which helps keep future subs lower.

Common Questions

How often does the choir rehearse

We rehearse each Thursday from 7.30 p.m. until 9.30 p.m. at the Methodist Church, Brunswick Road, Shoreham-by-Sea.

What happens at a rehearsal?

We meet at 7.30 p.m. so that people get a chance to chat / give out scores etc. Singing starts at 7.45 p.m. with a warm-up.  We practice various pieces as planned by our Music Director.  A break is taken at 8.30 p.m. so that messages can be given and people can have a breather.
Rehearsal ends at 9.30 p.m.

When does the choir perform?

The Choir traditionally performs a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert, both at the Church of St. Mary de Haura, in Shoreham-by-Sea. Recently we re-established summer concerts in July.

How much is the membership / subscription fee?

Please visit Details of Membership Fees for the more information.

Why do choir members pay a subscription fee?

Subscriptions are very important. They help pay for the hire of venues, hire of scores, payment to our rehearsal accompanist / Musical Director etc.

Are there any discounts / concessions?

A concessionary 50% rate is available if members are:
* on state benefits or supplements to raise their income to the state minimum.
* only receiving a state pension.
